The New Hong Kong Restaurant was founded 56 years ago in 1954 by several 'Ma Jie's from Hong Kong who came to Johor Bahru to eke out a living. They started business in a coffee shop selling Wan Tan noodles and soon expanded their menu to include other Hong Kong delicacies. During the British occupation years, there were many oil tankers and ships anchored at the asea shore in front of the restaurant. As a result, there were many sailors who patronised and publicised by word of mouth the excellent food found here. Many patrons from Singapore and across the country found their way here due to the free publicity of these sailors. In the late 80s, a Hong Kong master taught several disciples the art of making charcoal roasted meat which became our signature dish that's a crowd favourite. Till today, we are still famous for our signature dishes of charcoal roasted meat as well as our moon cakes and dim sum, which is unlike any other.

We have expanded our menu significantly and some of the must try specialties are the Chilli Crab, Crispy Chicken, Coffee Pork Ribs, and Crispy Beancurd. We have also a variety of festive food such as Chun Bing during Chinese New Year, Dumplings during the Dragon Boat Festival and Moon Cakes during the Mid Autumn Festival. In recent years we have also built up quite a reputation with our crowd favourite Lou-Po Peng (Wife Biscuit) with velvet melon, green bean, red bean or durian flavours. The New Hong Kong Restaurant is now a conspicous landmark of Johor Bahru. We are located in Stulang Laut, at a very strategic location that's easily accessible with a network of highways and roads.

Over the years, New Hong Kong Restaurant has created many significant and crowd favourite dishes that is known as their signature dishes. It has set us apart from many other restaurants in Johor Bahru city and our signature dishes continue to draw in the crowds, young and old alike.
